“The position of the artist is humble. He is essentially a channel.” - Piet Mondrian

I am a multimedia artist in Portland, Oregon. As an artist, my ideology is to start with intention about my medium, the colors or materials that inspire me, but then respond to what is happening on the surface of the painting. It is a dance between the artist and the painting, rather than the artist imposing their will on it.

The influences of diverse artists, writers, and poets are a subliminal part of me and always at work regardless of what I do. As a practicing internal medicine physician devoted to lifelong interdisciplinary learning, I like to allow the creative process to manifest itself alongside science. Literature, poetry and art represent the human condition, and that is what should drive medicine. They are not divorced from the other. Art helps me to be a better person and a better physician.

Fundamentally, I hope to create art that proceeds from and connects with human emotions. Although I am an abstract impressionist at heart, my primary goal is experimentation and discovery with each act of creation and expression of the preverbal creative process.
